This page has all my sample mini lessons that I have done in my SLS classes, and also helpful websites that I use for tutoring at Next Step.
Voca-battle
Context
Level: Any
Course:Regular English class
Class size: any
Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to …
1. challenge their vocabulary knowledge by competing against the opposing team
2. Have fun
Class time: 30 min.
Materials: vocabulary cards that you created, prize, list of definitions and answers to read to Ss
Preparation time: 30 minutes
1. Create more than one station by moving tables. If the table is big one should be enough, if the desks are little then students can play on the floor. (4min)
2. Prepare a stack of vocabulary cards on each station. (1 minute)
~ T tells Ss to get into pairs and direct them to their
stations (2 min)
~ T tells the Ss to take the stack of cards and spread them apart on the table, vocab words facing up. (1 min)
Spread of cards makes the two opposing teams to easily look for the cards and easily grab the cards
~ One representative from team A will stand opposite from one member of team B from the table. (2 min)
~ T reads a definition, both Ss who are challenging each other will grab the card they think is correct. Ss hold on to the card until the T asked Ss what
the correct answer is, and Ss shout the answer. The next opposing team rotate.(10 min)
~Ss will keep playing until all the cards run out. (may depend on the amount of the cards in the stack) 3 min
~At the end the Ss will count how many cards they have and report to the T. (This will help determine who the winning team is)
~T give the winning prize to the winner
